Part 3 looks at the years when both Labour and the Tories agreed that welfare capitalism was possible and desirable. It examines the reforms of the post-war Labour government, Labour’s involvement in colonial warfare in Vietnam and Malaya and the use of troops as strike-breakers in Britain. The film describes the effect on the Labour movement of Kruschev’s speech condemning Stalin and the Soviet invasion of Hungary. It looks at the arguments in the Labour Party over atomic weapons, charts the birth of CND, and ends with the defeat of the Tories in 1964.
