“The T&G Story – a history of the T&GWU from 1922-2007” 2008 51 minutes Red Flag Productions for UNITE the Union
The first comprehensive documentary account of what was the biggest trade union in Britain for much of the twentieth
century, with its membership in the 70s reaching two million. It organised workers across the whole economy – from the
docks to the car industry, from light engineering to aviation. T&G leaders Ernest Bevin, Frank Cousins and Jack Jones
were in their time household names, wielding vast political influence. The T&G story includes the General Strike of 1926,
the battles of the 1930s, the growth of union power in the postwar period, the trials of the Thatcher era and the struggle
to secure the union’s future in the years that followed.
